Description

Nectarinier Early Blaze

The Nectarine Early Blaze is an exceptional early variety that brilliantly opens the nectarine season. This white-fleshed variety is distinguished by its remarkable earliness, producing sweet and fragrant fruits from the end of June, well before most other nectarines.

Particularly appreciated for its perfect balance of sugar and acidity, Early Blaze offers creamy white flesh streaked with red near the pit, wrapped in an attractive red skin. Its firm and crunchy texture at the beginning of maturity evolves into an exceptional melting at full maturity.

Although self-fertile, combine it with the Fantasia Nectarine or the Mesembrine Nectarine to optimize pollination and create an orchard with staggered harvests.

Characteristics of the fruit

Early Blaze nectarines are characterized by their medium to large size and careful presentation. The smooth, shiny skin has a very attractive deep red coloring that contrasts beautifully with the creamy white flesh.

information

Feature Description Quality
Flesh Creamy white with red Exceptional
Flavour Very sweet, fragrant, low in acid Remarkable
Core Semi-free to free (depending on maturity) Practical

The white flesh delicately streaked with red reveals an intense and sweet flavor with very little acidity. This “low acid” characteristic makes it a nectarine particularly appreciated by children and lovers of very sweet fruits. The firm texture allows for excellent resistance to tasting.

Benefits of Precocity

The Nectarine Early Blaze offers the invaluable advantage of a very early harvest in late June-early July, opening the fresh nectarine season when the other varieties are still in formation.

๐Ÿ“… Seasonal benefits:

  • First nectarine of the season
  • Early harvest avoids summer competition
  • Ripe fruit for the first summer barbecues
  • Excellent taste test recognized

To spread out your nectarine season, complete with the Nectarine Nectarine ( mid-August) to extend the pleasures until the end of summer.

Culture and climate adaptation

This early variety adapts particularly well to warm, sunny climates. However, its very early flowering requires special attention in regions prone to late frosts.

๐ŸŒฑ Climate Requirements:

  • Prefers hot, dry climates
  • Cooling requirement: 400-500 hours
  • Protection needed against spring frosts
  • Full sun exposure essential

In cooler regions, plant against a south-facing wall. For less favourable climates, discover the Amsden Peach, also early but more hardy.

Planting and maintenance

The Nectarinier Early Blaze requires a privileged location to fully express its precocious qualities. Well-drained soil and maximum sun exposure are essential for its success.

๐ŸŒฟ Planting tips:

  • Soil: well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral
  • Exposure: full sun, sheltered from cold winds
  • Planting: autumn or late winter frost-free
  • Watering: regular but not excessive

Like all nectarine trees, it can be susceptible to blistering. Preventive treatment and good ventilation are recommended. For a natural approach, take inspiration from the practices used with the Queen of the Orchard peach, known for its resistance to diseases.

Early Culinary Uses

Early Blaze nectarines, with their very sweet and low-acid flavor, excel in many early summer preparations. Their earliness makes it possible to enjoy desserts with fresh nectarines from the beginning of the season.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Recommended Uses:

  • Fresh tasting: table fruit, fruit salads
  • Early desserts: pies , early summer crumbles
  • Processing: early jams, sorbets
  • Accompanies: mixed salads, sweet and savoury dishes

Their firm texture makes them perfect for preparations that require good hold. To diversify your summer harvest, pair them with the yellow-fleshed Red Haven Peach .

Harvesting and tasting

The harvest of the Early Blaze Nectarine comes from late June to early July, marking the opening of the smooth stone fruit season. Nectarines are harvested when they yield slightly under pressure and give off their sweet fragrance.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Harvesting tips:

  • Harvest spread over 10-15 days
  • Firm fruits: excellent crunch
  • Soft fruits: melting and very sweet
  • Shelf life: 1 week in the refrigerator

Their earliness allows them to enjoy the first nectarines of the year, which are particularly appreciated after the long winter wait. The flesh is firm at the beginning of maturity and evolves into an exceptional melting texture.
