Originally from Vranja in Serbia (former Yugoslavia), this variety was obtained in 1898 by NENADO-WICH. Its name “Vranja” refers to the Serbian city where it was developed. This century-old variety has survived the ages thanks to its exceptional qualities, quickly becoming a world reference for the production of large-caliber quinces.
The Vranja quince is characterized by its erect and vigorous habit, reaching 4 to 6 meters in height at maturity. Its distinctive appearance is recognizable by its large hanging leaves on long, sparsely branched branches. This characteristic silhouette makes it a particularly ornamental tree in the landscape.

The Vranja quince thrives in deep, fertile and well-drained soils. It tolerates slightly calcareous soils but prefers neutral to slightly acidic soils. Choose a sunny exposure to optimize fruit growth and quality.
Water the seedlings regularly for the first two years. Once established, the tree is resistant to drought. An annual supply of compost or organic fertilizer in the spring promotes abundant fruiting.
The Vranja quince requires little pruning. Simply carry out a cleaning pruning in winter: remove dead wood, branches that cross each other and balance the branches to promote air circulation.
