All about the Croncels Transparent Apple Tree
Croncels Transparent Apple, also known by more than ten synonyms such as Apfel von Croncels and Durchsichtiger von Croncels, is a hardy heirloom variety native to Troyes (Aube), France. It was obtained by E. Baltet in 1869 and is very common in the Boulonnais for its taste qualities.
Characteristics of the fruit
The fruit of the Croncels Transparent Apple Tree is medium to large in size (75 mm, 150 gr.) with a round and slightly flattened shape. The epidermis is smooth, yellow in color with shades of orange on the sunny side. The flesh is yellowish, juicy and crunchy, with a slightly tart and fragrant taste.
Use of the fruit
Croncels Transparent is mainly used for table consumption. It is harvested during the first half of September and eaten from September to November, although its conservation is poor.

The tree has a strong vigour and grows quickly with many young branches. It is type III fruiting, which induces a high production on young wood and causes strong arches.
Growing Characteristics
- Flowering: 3 days before Golden.
- Disease Susceptibility: Very susceptible to scab, powdery mildew and moniliosis, requiring regular fungicide treatments. The scabbed fruits are often deformed and do not reach perfect ripeness.
- Driving: Recommended for amateurs with intensive care, it is not recommended for growing in high stems.
