Nashi Niitaka is an exceptional Japanese variety, created in 1927 by Akio Kikuchi. Considered one of the best varieties of Asian pears, it stands out for its impressive fruit and remarkable taste quality. Its name comes from Niigata and Kochi prefectures, where its parent strains originate.
This apple-pear perfectly combines the round shape of an apple with the juiciness of a pear. Renowned for being the second most cultivated variety in Japan after Kosui and Hosui, Nashi Niitaka offers a unique taste experience with its extraordinarily crunchy and sweet white flesh.

With an average weight of 450 to 500g and records reaching 1kg, it is one of the largest nashis in existence. Its slightly rough beige to yellow-brown skin, punctuated by white dots, hides a flesh of exceptional taste quality.
The Nashi Niitaka is a vigorous and hardy Asian pear tree, particularly adapted to the French climate. Its ease of cultivation makes it an ideal choice for beginners and experienced gardeners alike.
The tree reaches a height of 3 to 4 meters with a habit initially erect and then spread. Its many arched branches give it an elegant silhouette. It lends itself well to different driving modes: high stem, goblet or palmette.
The deciduous foliage, a glossy dark green, takes on magnificent orange-red hues in autumn. Flowering in April offers a remarkable spectacle with its white flowers of 2-3 cm in diameter, grouped in melliferous umbels.
Nashi Niitaka has the advantage of being self-fertile, allowing production even when planted alone. However, the presence of a pollinator significantly improves yield. You can pair it with Williams Pear or other varieties like Nashi Kosui.
This variety is also an excellent pollinator for other nashis, helping to improve the overall production of your orchard. Its fruit setting is particularly fast, allowing you to enjoy your first harvest relatively early.
The harvest of Nashi Niitaka is spread out from mid-September to October, depending on weather conditions. The fruits must be picked at full maturity to reveal their full flavour, which is recognisable when the skin changes from green to golden brown.
Nashi Niitaka is distinguished by its exceptional conservation qualities. Like late-ripening Asian pears, it can be kept for up to a month in the refrigerator in good conditions, allowing you to prolong the pleasure of tasting.
