Description
Presentation of the Pรชcher Roussane de Monein
The Pรชcher Roussane de Monein is an exceptional French variety from the Pyrรฉnรฉes-Atlantiques. This old local variety was already renowned at the end of the nineteenth century and was mentioned in the work of the Horticultural Society of the Basses-Pyrรฉnรฉes.
A local fruit par excellence, the Roussane de Monein peach is distinguished by its beautiful orange-yellow colour with red spots and its slightly downy skin. Its dense, dark orange flesh offers an exceptionally fragrant, juicy and very sweet flavour.
Characteristics of the Roussane de Monein fishing
The fruits are large to very large, with a remarkable taste quality. The yellow-orange to yellow-red flesh is medium-juicy yet intensely fragrant, offering an explosion of authentic flavors.
The tree has an early and abundant fruit set, making it an interesting choice for family orchards. It reaches a height of 4 metres and 3 metres wide at maturity.
This variety is moderately susceptible to blister, a common peach tree disease, requiring special attention during preventive treatments.
Cultivation and maintenance
The Pรชcher Roussane de Monein adapts to all types of soil but prefers stony and well-drained soils, similar to the vineyard slopes of its region of origin. A sunny to partial shade exposure is ideal for optimal fruiting.
Its hardiness of -20ยฐC allows it to adapt to many regions. The average flowering (March-April) requires protection against late frosts. For a quality harvest, it is recommended to let the fruits ripen only on the tree in order to preserve all their flavors.
As this variety is moderately susceptible to blister, preventive treatments based on Bordeaux mixture in autumn and late winter are recommended. Fruit thinning in June results in larger size peaches.
Pollination and compatibility
The Roussane de Monein peach tree is self-fertile, not requiring other varieties to fruit. However, the presence of other peach trees with contemporary blooms can improve production. For optimal pollination, combine it with the July Roussane Peach or the Grosse Mignonne Peach.
Harvesting and storage
The harvest is spread out from mid-July to the first days of August depending on the weather conditions. The fruits are harvested at full maturity to benefit from all the aromatic richness of this exceptional variety.
Monein Roussane peaches are mainly eaten fresh but also lend themselves to culinary preparations: jams, compotes, fruit in syrup or gourmet desserts. Their intense flavour makes them a fruit of choice for baking.
