July Roussanne peach
The Pêcher Roussanne de Juillet is a prestigious old variety from the Landes, the first of the trio of Roussannes to reach maturity 🌞. This early variety is distinguished by its very large fruits, with exceptionally juicy dark orange flesh. Traditionally grown on the slopes of the South-West, it represents the excellence of summer peaches and remains highly prized for its incomparable taste quality.

Cultivation and management of the tree
The Roussanne de Juillet is a vigorous tree with an erect habit, reaching 4 metres in height. Its yellowish-green foliage, typical of yellow-fleshed varieties, gives it a recognizable appearance. The pink bellflower blooms in mid-March, offering a magnificent 🌸 spring spectacle. Although self-fertile, the association with other varieties such as the Amsden Peach or the Roussanne Royale significantly improves production.
Cultural requirements
- ☀️ Exposure: Full sun, sheltered from strong winds
- 🌱 Soil: Light, well-drained, without excess water
- ❄️ Hardiness: -15°C (moderately hardy)
- 📏 Planting distance: 4-5 meters between trees
Disease resistance
This Landes variety has a good natural resistance to the main peach tree diseases. It is moderately susceptible to blistering and has good tolerance to monilia. A winter preventive treatment with Bordeaux mixture and aerated pruning are usually enough to keep the tree in perfect health 🌿. Its selection is the result of decades of observation and rigorous selection in the Southwest.
An early age appreciated
The Roussanne de Juillet is the first of the Roussannes to ripen, offering its fruit from the beginning of July. This precocity makes it a particularly sought-after variety:
- 🗓️ Harvest staggered from 8 to 15 July
- 🏆 First premium quality catch of the season
- 🎯 Ideal for local markets and direct sales
- ⏰ Allows production to be spread out with later varieties
Gourmet uses
The exceptional quality of Roussanne de Juillet allows all uses:
| Usage | Recommendation |
| Fresh | To be enjoyed plain, serve slightly chilled |
| Pastry | Pies and clafoutis, keep the juice |
| Jam | Golden jam with a hint of lemon |
| Conservation | Jars or freezing after blanching |
Planting and care tips
To make your Roussanne de Juillet a success, plant between November and March in well-prepared soil. Adding compost to the plantation promotes recovery. The goblet pruning allows good sunlight for the fruits while limiting the height. Rigorous thinning is essential to obtain large fruits: keep one fruit every 15-20 cm. To optimize your orchard, combine it with the Grosse Mignonne for optimal cross-pollination.
An exceptional fruit heritage
The Roussanne de Juillet embodies the ancestral know-how of the Landes arboriculturists. Selected over the generations for its earliness and taste quality, it is part of the regional fruit heritage protected by the Conservatoire Végétal d’Aquitaine.
