The Poirier – Doyenné Boussoch – Double Philippe – Beurré de Mérode, also known as ‘Double Philippe’ and ‘Beurré de Mérode’, is a very old variety originating from the province of Antwerp, Belgium. Grown mainly in the Hauts-de-France, this pear is renowned for its crisp and early tart quality, becoming very juicy and refreshing when ripe.
‘Doyenné Boussoch’ is a tree with a fairly strong vigour, suitable for both tall and low-stemmed forms. Although very fertile, this triploid variety has a tendency to alternate and a poor pollination capacity. It is moderately susceptible to scab, requiring proper monitoring and care to maintain the health of the orchard.
Opting for the Poirier – Doyenné Boussoch – Double Philippe – Beurré de Mérode‘ is ideal for pear lovers looking for a variety with a rich history and a distinct flavor. Its early harvest period makes it an excellent choice for growers and hobbyists who want to enjoy fresh fruit from the beginning of autumn. Its need for early picking and close monitoring makes this variety a wise choice for those willing to engage in careful orchard management.
