The Louise Bonne d’Avranches pear tree is an emblematic French variety, created around 1780 by M. de Longueval in Normandy. This historic pear, dedicated to the wife of its creator, is one of the most popular varieties in France. 🌳
This old variety is distinguished by its medium-sized, elongated pears with yellow-green skin punctuated with brick red in the sun. Its white flesh, fine and melting, offers a delicately fragrant sweet flavor with a slight musky note.
Louise Bonne pears from Avranches seduce with their excellent taste quality. The flesh is particularly juicy, melting and sweet, with a pleasant and subtle fragrance. These medium-sized fruits have a typically pear-shaped shape.

The Louise Bonne d’Avranches pear tree is remarkably hardy and adapts to all types of climates. It is frost resistant and can be grown up to 600 meters above sea level. This variety of medium vigour reaches about 4 meters in height and 3 meters in wingspan.
Its late flowering at the end of March protects it from spring frosts. It prefers well-drained, sunny soil without excess limestone. The tree is very productive and offers a regular and abundant harvest.
To optimize conservation, harvest pears at the beginning of September, about 10 days before they are fully ripe. They tend to bleed if you wait too long. Stored in the refrigerator, they can be kept for 2 to 3 months.
The Louise Bonne d’Avranches pear tree is not self-fertile and requires the presence of other varieties for optimal pollination. For maximum fruiting, pair it with Conference AB Pear, Beurré Hardy Pear or Williams Yellow Pear.
This variety is itself an excellent pollinator for other pear trees, making it a strategic choice in an orchard.
Louise Bonne d’Avranches pears are perfect to bite into fresh thanks to their juicy and sweet flesh. They also excel in cooking: compotes, jams, pastries or even as a base for artisanal alcohols.
Their melting texture and delicate flavour make them a first-choice table pear, highly appreciated in Europe for its exceptional taste quality.
The Louise Bonne d’Avranches pear tree is a wise choice to preserve fruit biodiversity while enjoying a tasty and reliable production. This variety of French heritage brings authenticity and quality to your orchard.
