All about the Red Court-Pendu Apple Tree
The Red Court-Pendu Apple Tree, also known as the Red Court-Pendu, the Flat Court-Pendu, and the Short-Tail, is an ancient and heritage variety that is very common in Europe. Appreciated for its taste qualities and good preservation, this apple is an ideal choice for the table and the kitchen.
Characteristics of the fruit
The fruit is of medium size (65-70 mm), with a flat and homogeneous shape. The epidermis is dry and semi-rough, green-yellow in colour with red mottling and streaks. The flesh is firm, not very juicy, very sweet and pleasantly flavored.
Use of the fruit
The Court-Pendu Rose is excellent for knife, cooking and jellies. It has a vitamin C content of 20.6 mg per 100 g of pulp. Harvested in October, it is eaten from winter to early spring, keeping well in cold storage.
Description of the Red Short-Hanging Apple Tree
The tree has low vigour and requires a very good quality clay soil, slightly cool with a calcareous subsoil. It is perfectly suited to alluvial soils.
Growing Characteristics
- Flowering: Late to very late.
- Fertility: Good pollinator for very late-flowering varieties such as the Reinette de France.
- Disease Susceptibility: Moderately susceptible to scab and powdery mildew, highly prone to canker, woolly adelgid and red spider mite. Excellent vegetation quality.
