Characteristics of the Quetsche d’Italie – Altesse double

The Italian plum tree, also called Fellenberg or Double Highness, is an old and prestigious variety, originating from the Milan region and widely cultivated since 1784. This medium-sized, oval-shaped, slightly asymmetrical plum is known for its dark blue epidermis and sweet greenish-yellow flesh that becomes almost candied if the fruit is left to ripen on the tree. It is particularly appreciated for its fresh consumption thanks to its exquisite taste, superior to that of the Alsace Plum, and lends itself well to hot and dry climates where it excels.

Specific advantages of the Italian plum plum tree – Double Highness:

Resistance: Excellent adaptation to hot and dry regions, little fruit fall when ripe.
Pollination: Partially self-fertile; for optimal fruiting, cross-pollination with varieties such as Prune d’Ente, Reine Claude d’Oullins or Dorée is recommended.

Planting and care tips:

Planting: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Plant with another plum tree to promote pollination.
Interview: Regular watering during periods of drought and annual pruning to maintain the shape and health of the tree.

The Italian plum tree is ideal for those looking for a top quality fruit, suitable for fresh consumption. Its rich history and hardiness make it an excellent choice to enrich any family or commercial orchard.
