Planting a vine is ideally done from November to March, avoiding frost periods. Choose a sunny spot (south or south-east facing), preferably sheltered by a wall or with a support.

Detailed planting steps:

  1. Dig a hole 50-60 cm deep and wide
  2. Loosen the soil and work in well-rotted compost
  3. Position the plant, leaving the graft union 3-4 cm above the soil
  4. Install the training support (trellis, pergola) straight away
  5. Backfill and firm lightly around the plant
  6. Water generously (15-20 L) and mulch around the base

💡 Good to know: The vine adapts to all soil types, even poor or stony ones, provided they are well drained. Like our other fruit trees, it hates stagnant moisture.

A vine starts producing its first bunches from the 3rd year after planting, but production remains limited. Patience is essential!

Production calendar:

📅 Years 1-2

Plant formation, root development. No harvest.

🍇 Year 3

First bunches (2-3 bunches/vine). Token production.

📈 Years 4-5

Production ramping up (5-8 bunches/vine). Quality improves.

🏆 From year 6

Full production (10-15 kg/vine). Optimal yield.

🎯 Nurseryman’s tip: A well-tended vine can produce for several decades. Unlike peach trees which have a shorter lifespan, the vine is a long-term investment.

Pruning a vine is essential for optimal production. It is carried out in two distinct periods with different goals.

❄️ Winter pruning (February-March)

  • Prune before bud break, in dry weather
  • Remove the dead wood and badly oriented branches
  • Shorten the canes to 2-3 buds (eyes)
  • Keep the most vigorous branches
  • Avoid periods of hard frost

☀️ Summer pruning (June-July)

  • Pinch back the tips of vigorous shoots
  • Remove the water shoots at the base
  • Thin out the foliage in front of the bunches
  • Remove anyexcess bunches if necessary
  • Improve theoverall ventilation

🔧 Essential tools: Use well-sharpened, disinfected pruning shears. Vine pruning follows the same principles as that of our apple trees : clean, precise cuts to avoid disease.

The choice of variety depends on your local climate and your taste preferences. Our 6 varieties cover every need!

🌡️ For all of France (very hardy, -20°C):

  • Palatina : very sweet white grape, muscat notes, Hungarian origin
  • Lidi : very early, perfect for cool regions and short seasons
  • Muscat Bleu Garnier : exceptional muscat aroma, Swiss selection

🌞 For temperate and warm regions:

  • Rosemary : seedless white, ideal for beginners, very easy
  • Jupiter : seedless with a muscat taste, modern variety
  • GoldBerry : beautiful golden berries, vigorous growth

🛡️ Unique advantage: All our varieties are disease resistant (downy mildew, powdery mildew) and need no chemical treatment, unlike traditional grape varieties. Easier than our apricot trees which need more monitoring.

Absolutely! Growing in pots is perfectly possible and even recommended for terraces, balconies and small urban spaces.

🎯 Tips for success:

📏 Sizing
  • Pot of 50 L minimum (ideally 80-100 L)
  • Preferably taller than wide
  • A good drainage system is a must
🌱 Substrate
  • Quality potting mix + compost
  • Clay pebbles at the bottom
  • A well-draining mix is essential
☀️ Exposure
  • Full sun is essential
  • Minimum 6 h of sun/day
  • Sheltered from strong winds
💧 Care
  • Watering more frequent than in the ground
  • A sturdy support is a must
  • Regular fertilizer in season

🏆 Recommended varieties for pots:

  • Rosemary and Jupiter : more compact growth, ideal for small spaces
  • Palatina : very hardy, perfect for beginners growing in pots
  • Expected production: 5-8 kg vs 10-15 kg in the ground, but identical quality

💡 Comparison: A potted vine is easier than our blackcurrants or currants which need a more specific substrate. The vine adapts remarkably well!
